Core of ancient India’s educational system
Gurus imparted the foundations for parā & aparā vidyā* to students
Shaped destinies of the society as a whole
Today, despite centuries of overt and covert attacks, Gurukulas still strive in pockets across the country
They continue to uphold the tenets of our dharmā, but do not enjoy the same benefits or stature accorded to them in ancient times
Despite availability of advanced technology today like superior connectivity & higher computing resources, they continue to operate disconnected from the mainstream for the most part
While Gurukula students hold core of the domain knowledge, they lack access to mainstream advantages while their mainstream counterparts are restricted to having limited domain knowledge in IKS owing to modern education
can address this divide and bridge both worlds
Gurukula ideals can be adopted into modern society with necessary changes
As Indian Knowledge System sees a resurgence in the country, it is important to straddle both areas with equal ease and for this, it is important that traditional students do not suffer from lack of access to modern approaches
*parā vidya – knowledge of the Absolute, the Self
*aparā vidya – knowledge of the world, needed for material prosperity
